MANGO AND SPINACH SMOOTHIE

January 29, 2016

I’ve been trying to get really healthy this year and one thing I just can’t bring myself to do is eat breakfast. I have never been able to eat in the morning, so I decided to start making smoothies. And this Mango and Spinach smoothie is just too good not to share!

I love smoothies! They are a great way to get energized and ready for the day without having something heavy. They are also a great way to get your daily fruit intake!

I hate mango on it’s own.  I can’t stand it. They only way I can describe how it tastes to me is, dirty. But I absolutely LOVE mango in smoothies and frozen yogurt. I don’t know why, but it is just the only way I can eat it.

Ingredients

  • 250ml Natural Yogurt
  • 1/2 – 1 teaspoon Vanilla
  • 1 cup of Frozen Mango
  • 1 handful of Baby Spinach
  • 2 Frozen Bananas
  • 1/4 cup of Milk
  • 1 tablespoon Flaxseed Meal*

*The flaxseed is optional. I recently started adding flaxseed meal to almost everything because some people say it may help reduce your risk of heart disease, cancer, stroke, and diabetes. If you would like to read more about it you can do so here.

You also don’t have to use frozen fruits. I just prefer mine frozen because then they last longer and I don’t have to worry about it going bad and having to go out and buy more. Also I like my smoothies thick and cold and the frozen fruit helps that!

If you want to use almond milk or soy milk instead of regular milk I’m sure you could. I just use regular milk because I share these with my son.

Method

I love that smoothies are so simple. Throw it all in a blender and mix it up! Add the milk bit by bit as you need it to help it blend. When it’s done it should fill about 3 glasses.

I love this smoothie so much! I love spinach, I put it in everything! Pasta, burgers, cakes, EVERYTHING! So putting it in a smoothie was definitely something I wanted to try.

What are your favourite smoothies?

I’m not a big fan of eating mango but it sounds like it would be quite nice in a smoothie and I’ve never thought of adding spinach either. Will have to give this a try – it looks delicious.

I feel the exact same way as you about mangoes! You describe it perfectly :) But it’s so weird that I love them in smoothies! This is a great recipe and one I’m adding to my smoothie collection. I have them every day for breakfast during the week and I like a good variety.

Sounds Yum. I have never thought of using spinach before. I have also had just banana-mango by itself. Might give it a shot. Probably a cool way to get the kids to eat some spinach. #KCACOLS

You don’t really taste the spinach so it’s easy to hide it from kids!
